Celebrating Our History: NZSDRT Week 2026

NZSDRT Week has its roots in the history of the New Zealand Society of Diversional and Recreational Therapists Inc., which was formally incorporated on 18 September 1992.
Since then, 18 September has been recognised as a significant day for the profession, with the celebration extending into a national week dedicated to recognising practitioners, promoting professional practice, connecting our community, and raising awareness of the contribution of Diversional and Recreational Therapy across Aotearoa New Zealand.
More than three decades later, the profession continues to grow and evolve. In 2026, NZSDRT Week also provides an opportunity to strengthen understanding of Therapeutic Recreation and its role in supporting wellbeing, participation, connection, purpose and quality of life.
NZSDRT Week 2026 runs from 18–24 September.
