Deepa Chetty
Kia Ora, Ni Sa Bula, Namaste - My name is Deepa Chetty. I have over 20 years of experience working in health and hospital settings, supported by tertiary-level education that has strengthened my ability to contribute effectively across a broad range of clinical environments.
Over time, my professional focus has increasingly centred on the older adult population, with a strong commitment to promoting dignity, independence, and enhancing overall quality of life and wellbeing. In 2017, I completed further study with Careerforce, formalising my pathway into Diversional and Recreational Therapy (DRT). This qualification, combined with my academic background and extensive clinical experience, has enabled me to adopt a holistic and therapeutic approach to person-centred care, particularly within rehabilitation settings. I am currently employed by Te Whatu Ora – CCDHB at Kenepuru Hospital, where I work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering Diversional and Recreational Therapy interventions.
My most rewarding experiences come from engaging with clients who have been impacted by debilitating illness, supporting them to recognise that life can still hold meaning and purpose when appropriate supports and activities are in place. I find it particularly meaningful to support individuals by introducing purposeful, non-pharmacological interventions that encourage engagement and participation. I am passionate about using approaches such as music therapy, art and craft, and therapeutic baking sessions to foster self-expression, enjoyment, and connection. Contributing to even small improvements in a person’s day and creating opportunities for engagement is both professionally rewarding and central to my commitment to enhancing quality of life.
I am currently completing a Master of Public Health, which further strengthens my knowledge and supports my ongoing development in improving health outcomes at a broader population level.
