The Tamahere Country Club DRT Professional Development Day

Over 30 passionate individuals gathered at Tamahere Country Club for an inspiring and impactful session on Therapeutic Recreation. The event, facilitated by NZSDRT President Orquidea Tamayo Mortera (MNZM), brought together a vibrant mix of DRThs, caregivers, and well-being advocates to explore the deeper meaning and purpose of our profession.

The session focused on the value of Diversional and Recreational Therapy in supporting holistic wellbeing across different care settings. Through reflective kōrero and shared experiences, participants gained a renewed understanding of how therapeutic recreation creates meaningful connections and improves quality of life.

Attendees also explored how evidence-based practice strengthens our work, reminding us of the importance of intentional planning, evaluation, and advocacy. There was a strong sense of unity and affirmation — a collective reminder of why we do what we do.
