Why will I be a member of our Society?

Autumn Reflections – Why Being a Member Matters

Time flies, and just like that, it’s April! The air is crisp, the leaves are turning, and the golden hues of autumn remind us of the beauty of change and reflection. As we sent out our membership payment reminders this season, one question came up again (as it always does):

"What is the benefit of paying and becoming a member?"

Fair question. And we hear you.

We’re actually excited to share that thanks to some smart budgeting this year, we've been able to trim down operational expenses and use the savings to give back to YOU — our members. All current members will receive a beautiful membership pack that includes:

  • A yearly membership pin to proudly show you belong to our society

  • Motivational cards and stickers — because let’s be honest, who doesn’t need a little boost every now and then?

Something exciting we are starting this year!!!
Something exciting we are starting this year!!!

But while freebies are nice (and we hope you love them!), they are not the reason we ask you to be a member.

The real value of being a member of NZSDRT lies in the collective strength and support we build together:

  • Access to learning – workshops, resources, and conferences that help us grow as professionals.

  • A strong network – you're part of a community that understands the mahi, celebrates the wins, and lifts you during the tough times.

  • Representation – when we advocate for Diversional and Recreational Therapy at national levels, your membership strengthens our voice.

  • Recognition – being part of a recognised professional body adds credibility and value to the work you do every day.

At the heart of it, membership is about belonging, growth, and standing together for something we believe in.

To borrow from a well-known quote:

“Ask not what your community can do for you, but what you can do to raise your community.”

Our society needs us. We need to stand together and amplify our voice. Alone, we are quiet — but together, we can make a loud, resounding noise that says: our role matters. WE MATTER!!!

Thank you to all the members and National Registered DRTh, let us continue to stand together as one!
